HCL Concord Golf
Ladies' Clubs
Woods, Irons & Hybrid Irons
-This section applies to those women who
have swing speeds, using a driver, of around 70 mph or less, and hit their drives
less than 150 yards. Those who are longer hitters should be using the "men's" products, with the shaft
that fits their swing speed, in the other sections of our site.
-The shafts are graphite in both woods and irons, with a flex called "L", standing for
"ladies". Such players need flexible shafts to help get the ball airborne and to yield more
distance.

These can be adjusted, longer or shorter, to fit the given player.
- Most players will find that the standard offering of 1, 3 and 5 wood with
3 thru pw irons makes a poor set. They cannot hit the 3 iron and find the 4 iron a struggle. In such
cases the player should substitute a 7 wood for the 3 iron and a 9 wood for the 4 iron. By substuting woods
for irons, the player will find they provide much more distance and can also be used to rescue themselves
from bad lies or the rough. The products listed below allow the player to pick and choose a configuration of
woods and irons that fit their game.
- Fitting Examples:-
1- The woman in question hits her current
driver 180 yards or more. She would be selecting woods and irons in the sections marked "woods" and "irons"
listed elsewhere - the so called men's prducts. Her shaft selection would most likely be R,
regular. Her set might well be a 10.5 degree driver, a 3, 5 and 7 wood, together with a 4 iron thru a
pitching wedge (pw). Her gender would not be a consideration, just her playing abilities. If she is also
tall she might make her clubs at men's standard lengths, or 1/2 inch shorter, as the case may be.
2- This lady hits her driver 120 yards, when she is able to
connect solidly. Slicing and topping the ball is frequent. She would be selecting from the equipment listed
below. Her set might be a driver at 12 degrees - either the M.P.O. club or the XPS club- and a 3, 5, 7
and 9 wood from Synchron II fairway woods. Her irons would be the Black Lightning clubs, from the 5 iron thru the
pitching wedge. In all cases the proper shaft is the ladies flex.
3- The lady hits her driver about 150 yards typically. She is in
between the two cases above. Her set would include a high lofted driver - the M.P.O.: the XPS; or the titanium
Prestige Classic. Her irons would be the Black Lightning clubs. The fairway woods should be the Synchron II
system, selecting a 3, 5, 7 and 9 wood as her set. The shafts on all should be a little stiffer than the
standard ladies' flex. The proper shaft would most likely be the seniors'
flex.
;
- We only recommend titanium driver heads that are relatively small when
measured form heel to toe, 97 mm's or under.. Years of observation has shown that the player
has great difficulty bringing larger heads to a square position during the downswing. The net result is
slicing or topped shots.

Woods
- M.P.O. driver - 17-4 stainless steel & proprietary graphite
shaft, 12
degree loft RH
- This unit is made with a double rail on the sole to lower the center of
gravity of the head and make it easier to get a higher ball flight. The little step in the rear of the
sole is there to avoid bouncing off the ground just prior to naking contact with the ball. The club is easy to use
and will provide the slow swinger the extra ball carry needed to hit longer drives. It can be used freely with
any fairway woods listed, as the shaft and the head weight are so matched.

- Price ea. - $42.00
- Delivery - 3 to 5 business days
- Prestige Classic driver, Ti 6-4, offsaet, 13 degrees, 350 cc's w/ Rapid Fire graphite
shaft RH
- This driver is the answer for those who need more distance and/or slice the ball.
- Slower swingers need to hit the ball higher to gain more distance. The generous 13
degree loft is
designed to get the ball airborne quickly and to increase ball carry in the air.
- Slicing occurs when the club face is open at collision with the ball. This offset design allows the
player to more readily bring the club head to a square position at impact and transfer more energy
to the ball. Open face hits are glancing blows that greatly reduce distance.
- The head is just 96 mm's wide as measured from heel to toe. Experience shows that it is much easier
for the player to a narrower head to a square position than the big, wide, heads.
- Tees that are 2 & 3/4 inches high are recommended for ease of use and maximum distance.

-Pres*tige II TI 6-4 driver, 380 cc,
11.5 degrees loft with Rapid Fire multi flex graphite shaft
RH
- This driver is made for those who swing at speeds lower than 85 mph (
less than 190 yard drives ) and need a higher launch angle and more ball carry in the air. The specs. are :-
Loft - 11.5 degrees; Lie angle - 56 degrees; Face width from heel to toe - 97 mm's. The face is slightly closed at
a 1 degree angle to combat slicing. It is important that the player tee up the ball high enough when playing
titanium head clubs as they are larger from sole to the top than conventional steel clubs. To avoid low shots and
reduced ball carry, use the 2& 3/4 inch tees that are now commonly available.
- Note :- this driver is compatible with any of our fairway
woods.

Price ea. - $88.00 w/ Rapid Fire
multi flex shaft

- Synchron II fairway woods - 17-4 stainless steel
& Rapid Fire multi flex graphite shafts.
- These fairway woods have a shallow face and a low center of gravity to get the ball up in the
air rapidly. They have a two rail bottom to handle difficult lies and rough. The lofts are generous, ideal for
the slower swinger.

Irons
- Prestige Classic Irons - 431
stainless steel & proprietory graphite shafts. RH only
- The Prestige Classic irons are easy to use designs, very suitable for intermediate to slow swings.
They
have a muscle back in the cavity that creates a low center of gravity that allows the player to get the
ball in the air readily. The soles, as measured
from face to rear, are moderately narrow, which enables the player
to make decent contact in bad lies. The offsets are generous to help the player square the face and avoid
slicing.

- BL Soft Wedges - 304 stainless steel & proptietary
graphite shafts. RH only
- These can complement the Prestige Classic irons above, or be an excellent addition
for those who simply seek a pitching wedge, a sand wedge and/or a lob wedge. Soft wedges are
designed to promote "feel" on the part of the player so they can quickly learn how to use them. Their tendency is
to get the ball up high quickly. The pitching wedge is to be used for a full shot when a 9 iron would go too
far; for little short pitches when just off the green; and to recover from the rough while hitting the ball a good
distance. The player will want to use the sand and lob wedges from the sand; from the rough; and
where a bloop shot is needed such as going over a sand trap or other hazard.

- Hybrid Select 5000 iron/wood - 17-4 stainless
steel & proprietary graphite shaft RH LH
- Although these are irons technically, with iron shafts and lengths, they are designed to
be as easy to hit as fairway woods. The hollow construction places the center of mass down and towards the rear, as
is the case in many woods. This provides a more sweeping action and lessens the need to dig into the ground to
get the ball airborne. While many powerful players will use the 1,2 and 3 irons as their preffered clubs, the
greatest use is for the slower swingers from the 3 iron and up. These are offered in various sets so the
player can economically pick no more than needed.
